Humans believe happiness can be achieved by three fundamental things: MONEY, LOVE, and SUCCESS. What people do not seem to grasp is what amount of happiness those things will bring them and for what amount of time it will last. “Happiness” is also seen as reaching a destination. It is seen as something we achieve once we’ve gone through trials of negativity and failure. Happiness is a challenge and everyone wants to go through the obstacles to get there, but we don’t need to view the obstacles as negative ones like everyone else does. Try changing your perspective so that you can find more value in what makes you happy.
What we tend to overlook is that we actually love the challenge. We love the chase and we thrive off of the desire to challenge ourselves. This comes from the need to feel successful. There is growth that comes with challenges and learned experiences from the obstacles we face. We don’t need money to find happiness, we can challenge ourselves to not depend on money and what we do or do not have. We don’t need love from others around us to feel happy, instead choose yourself and find your own self worth and be happy with you and who you are. Success comes in many different types. You could be successful in your job, school, sports, or other man-made things. Maybe instead of finding success in material desires, be successful in self-discovery, in growth, in positivity, and internally so that you won’t rely so heavily on the external and the world around you.
From the wise words of Albus Dumbledore, “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Don’t live in negativity. Use these challenges as ways to push you in a positive direction. Make healthy habits for yourself. Create a system in your routine that allows you to challenge yourself daily in an enjoyable way. Work-out because you are proud of the process, journal if thats how you express your thoughts and feelings, build something that you’re proud of.
Don’t choose the easy route because it is simple or safe. Don’t choose money because you believe thats what everyone relies on nowadays, don’t spend all your energy loving someone else unless you have first learned to love yourself, don’t try and be successful in things of this world, instead be successful in positively changing your life to be the happiest it can be.
True happiness is the destination we all want to get to, so challenge yourself to not be the cliche. Don’t find it in material things.
When life hands you lemons, accept the challenge.
